How to play
1

Build a 13-candidate squad

Tap a district in the parliament chamber, then pick one candidate from the list, one from each of the 13 districts. Keep the whole squad under the €100m budget; a bargain squad goes for about €57.4m, so it's about balance, not survival.

2

Pick your starting 11

Of your 13, only 11 score. Send 2 to the bench; a bench pick only comes on if one of your starting 11 isn't elected and a bench pick is. Two districts always sit out: choosing which two is part of the game.

3

Name a captain

Pick a captain from your starting 11, their points are doubled. Add a vice-captain as backup. Captain a heavyweight for safety, or a cheap punt for a swing.

4

Score on the real result

When the count is done, every candidate earns points on how they actually did, first-count votes, getting elected, smashing the quota, early counts, shock wins. Highest total wins.

How scoring works

Malta votes by Single Transferable Vote: 13 districts, five seats each, a quota a candidate must reach to be elected, and votes that transfer across many counts. Scoring is deliberately simple, four rules per candidate, the captain bonus, and a penalty for leaving districts empty.

+1

First-count votes

One point per 1,000 first-preference votes a candidate collects across the district(s) they contest. The base reward for genuine popularity.

+3

Elected

Won a seat in the House of Representatives via the normal count. Seats filled by a casual / bye-election (after a 2-district winner vacates) don't earn this bonus.

+5

Elected on count 1

Got over the quota on first preferences alone, a clean, decisive win on the very first count. Stacks with the +3 for being elected.

+2

Top in the district

Pulled the most first-count votes in their district. The vote magnet bonus, the person everyone else's transfers chase.

+1

Elected in 2 districts

Finished in the top 5 of both districts they contested, i.e. they won enough to trigger a casual election before vacating one seat. A small extra for spotting a true heavyweight.

×2

Captain

Your captain's entire total is doubled. Vice-captain doubles instead if the captain doesn't actually stand (withdrawal / disqualification).

−5

Empty district

−5 points for every one of the 13 districts you leave unpicked. Fill all 13 to avoid it: an 11/13 squad starts 10 points down.
